Sule Pagoda

Having built for more than 2,000 years, the Sule Pagoda is one of the Burma’s three most revered pagodas in Yangon, besides Shwedagon and Botataung pagodas.

The octagonal stupa lying in the Yangon City downtown is plated in gold with its dome rising 48 meters. It is also said to enshrine a single strand of hair from the Buddha.

The Sule Pagoda is set at the junction of Sule Pagoda Road and Mahabandoola Road. When the British occupied Yangon in the middle of the 19th century, they made it the center of the city, which led to present. With its central location, it is no wonder that the pagoda is in constant use as the place for local people to come, offering up their thanks and prayers.
