Chauk Htat Gyi Pagoda

Situated northeast of the magnificent Shwedagon pagoda, the Chauk Htat Gyi pagoda is the place where houses one of Burma’s most important and revered reclining Buddhas.

The famous pagoda itself is basically a huge metal structure designed to house and shelter the very big concrete-made Buddha statue from the elements. The paya opens all hours of the day, and admission to visit the Buddha is subject to free of charge.

Stretching horizontally on a very long platform, the Buddha is almost 60 meters in length, 30 meters tall, and is crowned with diamonds and precious stones, making an encounter with the Chaukhtatgyi Buddha quite an awe-inspiring experience. Be sure to stroll to see all the way to the end. There you’ll see on the Buddha’s feet inscriptions in gold describing the many lives of the Buddha; see if you can decipher the symbols. Also, next to it is the platform where you can see entire Buddha of the Chaukhtatgyi pagoda.
