Ngwe Saung Beach

Ngwe Saung Beach boasts its seven miles of pristine sand line the Bay of Bengal, with minimal development, and a laid back vibe, seafront sunsets and an abundance of fresh seafood.

This gem of the Ayerwaddy River delta region was off limits for several years after the destructive cyclone Nargis. Although the cyclone missed the beach, the delta region was suffered the brunt of the cyclone and considered unnavigable for a long period. Due to a combination of this and the long distance from Yangon, little facility has been developed here, with a delightfully low number of resorts and guesthouses lining the palm fringed sand, mostly congregated to the northern end. Whilst Ngapali undoubtedly possesses the most picture-postcard perfect beach, with its white sands and crystal clear waters, Ngwe Saung plays the role as a pretty relaxation spot outside of Yangon, near Pathein!

Ngwe Saung is even a more suitable venue for those looking for more than just beach relaxation as its nearby fishing villages are entirely worth a visit, perhaps by bicycle, and the varied range of local dining opportunities are far greater. You can take a sunrise horse ride along the sands and there are good snorkelling sites to be enjoyed at the southern end of the beach.
