Ngapali Beach

Just thinking about Ngapali Beach is enough to make you relax as this is one of Burma’s most well-known attractions with vast stretches of pure, soft, white, empty sand. This truly pristine beach brings a name reminiscent of the Naples man’s visit. Local people could not find a word matching “Napoli” in their Burmese language, therefore, Ngapali was chosen.

Ngapali has been untouched by tourism, and still one of the best attractions in Burma worth visiting. It is stretched with rustling palm trees, 2 kilometer white, empty sand of heaven and a few luxury bungalow-style resorts. Ngapali Beach boasts its great snorkelling sites, a reasonable golf course, uninhabited islands and several nearby villages including clay pottery village in Kinmaw, hand weaving village in ancient Thandwe where you can observe traditional artisans in action. It is not difficult to find lovely local restaurants for lunches and dinners serving excellent, ultra-fresh seafood, both in the hotels along the shoreline and along the road inland.

Thandwe town, if excluding Ngapali Beach, is actually a small town but definitely worth a ramble. The town houses 3 modest stupas which all offer mesmeric views across the community. Its thriving market is held daily in what once was a British jail, selling all manner of regional produce, clothes, fabric, and even some locally-produced souvenirs.
